3 Days Ouarzazate to Erg Chegaga Desert
Day 1 – Ouarzazate – Drâa Valley – Zagora
3 Days Ouarzazate to Erg Chegaga Desert, pick up at the hotel where you are staying in Ouarzazate at 8h in the morning to start route to the desert Erg Chegaga Get ready to be surprised! Today we say goodbye to Ouarzazate, was a former military garrison and today is the administrative capital of the Drâa Valley, taking our way through the so-called route of the Oasis. We will cross Ait Saoun and its mountain pass of 1680 meters, impressive lunar landscapes.
We continue through the Drâa Valley, 210 kilometers of palm groves that made this route one of the most beautiful in Morocco. In the past, this valley was crossed by countless commercial caravans coming from Black Africa. We arrived in Zagora, considered the gateway to the desert as its sign says “Tombouctou 52 days“. This night will certainly be quiet!
Day 2 – Zagora – Tamagroute – M’hamid – Erg Chegaga
After breakfast, we head to the Erg Chegaga desert passing through the village of Tamagroute, where we will have the opportunity to visit one of the oldest Koranic libraries in Morocco, then the nearby kasbah famous for its potters factory.
Lunch will be served in M’hamid at leisure and lunch on the go, then we depart to the dunes of Erg Chegaga crossing different desert features “hamadas & oasis”.
We will depart in a camel caravan that will take us to the camp, we will make a stop half way to watch the sunset over the dunes and stretch our legs a bit before continuing to the camp. Typical dinner and then with local nomads playing local music.
Day 3 – Erg Chegaga – Foum Zguid – Taznakht – Ouarzazate
After breakfast, we leave the desert with varied landscapes in the direction of Ouarzazate crossing the old track of the “Paris Dakar Rally“. Then to Foum Zguid the first village after the desert, where the asphalt road begins, after lunch, we continue to the Berber village of Taznakht, famous for its Berber carpets and rugs. We arrive in Ouarzazate in the late afternoon, end of the trip and end of our services.
