5 days desert tour from Rabat
DAY 1: Rabat – Meknes – Volubili and Fez.
The journey begins at your riad or local hotel in Rabat. After breakfast, our driver will meet you at the hotel to begin your 5 days desert tour from Rabat to Marrakech via the Merzouga desert. Today you’ll see the majority of Morocco’s imperial cities, including Meknes, where you’ll eat lunch. We will then travel to Volubilis for a brief tour to the Roman ruins before arriving in Fes for the night and staying in a traditional riad/hotel.
DAY 2: Fes – Ifran – Azrou – Erfoud – Merzouga
Departure from your Riad/Hotel in Fes. Then travel to Merzouga via Ifrane and Midelt. As Midelt is known as Morocco’s apple capital, we will see vistas of the Middle Atlas and the tallest mountains on our route. Then we’ll go to Azrou, a Berber town in the center of Morocco’s largest cedar forest, to see some wild monkeys. We’ll go on a short trek in the woods to obtain some excellent shots.
Then we proceed to Midelt via the stunning Ziz gorges carved out of volcanic rock and the Tizi N’talghamt pass. We’ll have plenty of time to pause for panoramic vistas along the route, since the Ziz valley, also known as the Ziz palms, is Morocco’s second biggest river.
In the afternoon, we will arrive at Merzouga’s Erg Chebbi Dunes, which contain Morocco’s biggest body of natural underground water. We will be met with a cup of mint tea upon arrival at the Sahara Desert before beginning on a one-hour camel ride across the beautiful dunes. The magnificent sunset and vivid blue sky will take your breath away and leave you with unforgettable memories. In a nomad tent, a traditional supper will be provided. We’ll spend some time listening to Berber music while sitting around a red fire with a stunning view of the sky.
DAY 3: Excursion in Merzoug 4×4
Today, we will travel from your accommodation for an excursion in Merzouga with a skilled guide over the erg Chebbi dune. During the first four hours of investigation, you will visit Tannamoust’s Katarian museums of historic automobiles. In addition to the Gnawa association in Khamlia, where most of the blacks who migrated from West Africa long ago and settled in Morocco spent their time listening to their wonderful melodies while drinking tea, we will walk through the nomads to learn about their way of life after an hour of fun.
We will next return to Mefiss, the Berber people’s most spectacular location, where they have been harvesting aprons from the mountains for long years and where French troops previously dwelt. Still pause for a few minutes before carrying on to a local restaurant for lunch, which offers delecuis Berber pizza, as we have done since colonial times to return to your accommodation after lunch, capping up our excursion in Merzouga around Erg Chebbi.
Day 4: Dades Valley – Merzouga – Rissani
As part of our tour, we will get up early this morning and climb the dune to view what may be the finest sunrise you have ever seen. Following a much-needed shower and breakfast. You will meet your driver-guide to begin a fresh day of excursions. We’ll travel to Rissani, the first imperial city, and its intriguing market, where nomads from all over the world come to sell their animals and purchase necessities. We arrive at Bomalen Dades, a little town in Morocco’s Tinghir district of Drâa-Tafilalet.
The majority of its population are similar to those in the Dades valley… We slept at a beautiful hotel/riad and ate supper. Morocco is easily accessible.
Day 5: Dades Gorge – Ouarzazete – Marrakech
After breakfast at the hotel, we journey through some of the High Atlas Mountains’ most stunning vistas. Following a quick tour of the Dades Valley. Our fourth day in southern Morocco will begin with a trip to Ouarzazate, sometimes known as “The Gateway to the Desert.” Ouarzazate is famous for its exquisite Kasbah of Taourirt as well as its film studios, where many excellent films have been made. Continue to Ksar Ait Benhaddou, a Unesco World Heritage Site constructed into the mountainside.
This kasbah is essentially a fortified village with high ramparts and watchtowers. We’ll stop here for lunch before continuing on our tour. We will climb the high pass of Tizi-n-Tichka, which provides panoramic views, to arrive in Marrakech in the early afternoon. Stay in a traditional Riad or hotel. Your 5-day journey from Rabat to Marrakech crossing the desert will conclude here.
